Peter Blackmer IV was born in 1761 in Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the son of Peter Blackmer III and Esther (Shepard) Blackmer.
He married Elizabeth Stebbins, daughter of Nehemiah and Elizabeth (Morgan) Stebbins, on January 7, 1788 at Greenwich. Their known children were David, Jason, and Luther.
A report of a survey of a Greenwich Plains Cemetery in Greenwich on 4 October 1927 (before the Quabbin Reservoir flooded the area) lists the marble gravestone of "Peter Blackmer, departed this life July 2 1818 Aged 57." [1] The dates of his will and probate indicate that he died in 1819, so the date on the grave record is likely to be one year too early.
Peter Blackmer of Greenwich in the county of Hampshire, Massachusetts, yeoman, made his will on 10 March 1819. In the will he named "beloved wife Bitsy Blackmer" (to receive the use and improvement of one-third of the real estate during her widowhood, plus furniture and specified livestock), son David Blackmer (to receive half of the real estate), son Jason Blackmer (to receive half of the real estate), and son Luther Blackmer (to receive $100 from each of his brothers one year after he reaches the age of 21). The will was proved at Belchertown, Massachusetts, on 10 August 1819.[2]
