Samuel Howard Blackmer was a son of Samuel Huling Blackmer and Fanny (Abbott) Blackmer. He was born on 2 March 1902 in Bennington, Vermont. Following high school in Bennington (graduated 1920), he attended Yale College (graduated 1924) and Harvard Law School (graduated 1927). As of 1930 he was a lawyer and judge of the municipal court in Bennington.[1]
He was married in July 1925 to Katrina Roosevelt Schuyler, who was born in Bennington on 10 May 1900.[1]
Samuel Howard Blackmer died in Bennington at the age of 49 on 25 December 1951. The death certificate indicates that he was a lifelong resident of Bennington and was "supreme county judge" at the time of his death. Death was due to coronary thrombosis, associated with a two-year history of coronary sclerosis. His wife, "Mrs. Samuel H. Blackmer" provided information for the death certificate.[2]
