Joan was born in 1915. She was the daughter of Lallie Dorothy Palmer and William Lindsay Notman.
Her mother married, secondly, James Leslie Blackmore in 1924. (The NZ BDM birth records have Joan and her brother Geoffrey being registered in 1925 under the name Blackmore.)
Her mother died in 1931.
She married Albert Henry Burwell on 25 November 1936 in New Plymouth. Her husband was a Farmer. A copy of their wedding photos can be found in the Puke Ariki Museum collection online[1].
They had three children.
In the 1978 NZ Electoral Rolls she was recorded at 37A Miro Street, Inglewood with her husband, and was retired.
Joan passed away in 1987 at the age of 72 and was cremated on 2 November 1987.
