Biography

She is one on many female Blackwelders who is an enigma. By this, it is meant we know she existed per marriage data but we do not know for sure who her parents were. Here is what we do know.

She married Jacob Duke in 1798 in Cabarrus County, NC. Per the census records her birth range is given as 1765 to 1774. With this information, and assuming her parents were at least 16 when she was born, then her parents' birth range would be 1749-1758 - meaning they could have been born prior to 1749 but no later than 1758.

With this information and other data we have, then is likely her parents were Caleb and Betsy Blackwelder. In the 1790 census Caleb is listed with a son over 16 (probably Martin) and four females. Of the four females, one would be Betsy and the other a daughter name Rachel, who married after 1790. Of the other two, one was most likely Nancy.

Nancy's husband, Jacob Duke, is a household head in the 1800-1820 NC census records. Per these records Nancy was in the age range 16-25 in 1800 and 26-44 in the 1810 and 1820. There are no records for Jacob and Nancy after the 1820 census.
