John married Christian Paton prior to 1805. The parish record indicates that they "irregularly married" prior to 7 January 1805 when they were "compeared before the Session" and "owned they were married persons, rebuked by the Moderator and dismissed".[1]
He appears to have died prior to the 1841 census in which Christian appears living with her sons George and James, daughter Anne and Anne Cowie.[11]
Kimberly Sutherland Mills DNA matches with the 4 X great-grandson of John and Christian's daughter Anne further confirm this relationship.
Unknown parentage and birthdate.
