William Henry White Blagdon was born in 1843 to Edward Seavear Blagdon and Julia Brock (Harris) Blagdon in Plymouth, Devon, England. [1] He first appears on the 1851 England & Wales census with his parents. [2]

In 1865, William married Sarah Joint in the Plymouth Registration District, [3] and the couple went on to have eight children: Julia Harris 1866, Mary Jane 1869, Louise Caroline Alberta 1871, William Henry Edward 1874, Alice Maud 1877, John George Harris 1880, Frances Helena Augusta 1882, and Albert Charles Lindsay 1885. The first three were born in England, the younger five born in New Zealand.

The family appeared on the 1871 England & Wales census in Islington, Middlesex, England. [4]

Burial

About 90 firemen from the city and suburban fire brigades, in full uniform, attended the funeral of their lute comrade, Fireman W. H. Blagdon, on Saturday. A large number of members of Court of Dunedin, A.O.F., and of the general public, also followed the funeral procession, which was headed by the St. Kilda. Band. The coffin was carried on a small motor fire engine belonging to the Dunedin Fire Brigade. The burial service at tho grave was conducted by the Rev. li. Fairmaid. The bell at the South Dunedin fire station was tolled as the funeral moved through the streets.[5]
