David Blair arrived in Upper Canada in 1834 according to the 1911 census. [3] He probably traveled with his father Skene who moved to Upper Canada the same year and petitioned for land on 3 Oct 1834.[4] His father Skene Blair was 63 years old when he received a free land grant of 100 acres in Lot n 1/2 21 Concession 14 in West Gwillimbury on 2 Jan 1834 for his military service. In the 1851 Census of Canada West, David Blare, a 33-year-old Lutheran farmer, resided in Peel, Wellington County, Canada West (Ontario), Canada.[8] Moving on to the 1861 Census of Canada West, David Blair, now 42 years old was working as a farmer, continued to reside in Peel, Wellington, Canada West (Ontario), Canada.[9] Little had changed by the time the 1871 Census of Canada was taken, David Blair, aged 53, still farming and Presbyterian, originally born in Scotland, was living in Peel, Wellington North, Ontario, Canada. [10] In the 1881 Census of Canada, David Blair, aged 62 was still pursuing farming, identified as a Presbyterian, and resided in Peel, Wellington Centre, Ontario, Canada.[11]
The 1891 Census of Canada showed David Blair, now 73 and a widowed farmer associated with the Free Church, as the head of the household in Peel, Wellington Centre, Ontario, Canada. His single son and daughter Donald and Henrietta were residing with him. [12]
Johnston Kidd moved in with David after he married Davids daughter Henrietta, and in 1901 we find them in the same household in Peel, Wellington Centre, Ontario, Canada. David Blair was then 85, widowed, and a retired farmer. [13] In the 1911 Census of Canada David Blair (age 97) a Presbyterian, gives immigration year as 1834. Birth date - as time elapsed after 1891 he grew older.
