Succumbs In Ohio; Services At Denver

Mrs. Dora Weddington, 77, formerly of Johnson County, died at her home in New Carlisle, Ohio, early Friday morning after an illness of several months.

She was born in Johnson County in 1879, the daughter of William and Lydia Blair, but had made her home in Ohio for the past two years. Her husband, Lee Weddington, preceded her in death in 1944. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Virgil Weddington, Springfield, O.; Willie Weddington, New Carlisle, Ohio, and Hershel Weddington, Denver, Ky.; six daughters, Mrs. Fannie Hitchcock, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Florence Blanton, Denver, Ky., Mrs. Victoria Wilhelm, Tip City, Ohio, Mrs. Lucille Williams, Marion, Ohio, Norma Blair and Mrs. Gladys Scott, both of New Carlisle, O.; two brothers, Claude Blair, Mossy Bottom, Ky., and Curtis Blair, Ashland, Ky., and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Rice, Denver, Ky.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at the Liberty Baptist Church at Denver, Ky., with Sam Slone officiating and music furnished by the Toms Creek Quartet.

Burial rites were conducted at the family cemetery at Denver under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Dora Alice Blair Weddington, youngest daughter of the late William P. J. and Ldyia Rice Blair was born near Denver, Ky., February 26, 1879, and deceased this life at 3:15 a.m., Friday, December 14, 1956. Death came after a lengthy illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gladys Scott of New Carlisle, Ohio, at the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 18 days.

In November 1895, she was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist Church at Denver, Ky., where she remained a faithful member. Her entire adult life was spent near Denver until 1953 when she moved to Tipp City, Ohio, where she resided with her daughter, Victoria, until November 1955, when she moved to nearby New Carlisle, Ohio, to reside with her daughter, Gladys.

At Coal Run, Ky., on June 4, 1896, she was united in marriage to Leonidas (Lee) Weddington who preceded her in death September 30, 1946. To this union were born eleven children, two of whom died in infancy.

Survivors include three sons and six daughters; Virgil H., Springfield, Ohio, Hershell K., Denver, William S., Mrs. Norma Blair and Mrs. Gladys Scott all of New Carlisle, Ohio, Mrs. Victoria Wilhelm of Tipp City, O., Mrs. Lucille Williams of Marion, Ohio, Mrs. Fannie Hitchcock of Miami, Florida, and Mrs. Florence Blanton of Denver, twenty grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Also two brothers and one sister; Claude Blair of Pikeville, Ky., Curtis Blair of Huntington, W. Va., and Mrs. Sarah C. Rice of Denver. One brother, Clate P. Blair and two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Blair and Mrs. Cynthia Arms, preceded her in death.

Brief services were held Saturday, December 15, by Rev, Joe Waltz of Fairborn Baptist Church in Trostel Funeral Home of New Carlisle, Ohio, after which the body was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Florence Blanton of Denver, Ky.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 16, at the Liberty Baptist Church at Denver, Ky., and were in charge of Rev. Sam Sloan of Ashland, Ky., and music by the Toms Creek Quartet.

Internment was in the family cemetery near Denver under the direction of the Trostel Funeral Home of New Carlisle, Ohio, and the Paintsville Funeral Home of Paintsville.
