William Blair came to America from County Down, Ireland. He was undoubtedly from the Scotch Settlement there and probably had no Irish blood whatsoever, as was the case of most of that colony of Scotchmen who went first to Northern Ireland, and then moved across the ocean to America in search of religious freedom. He settled in South Carolina among the Scotch Covenanter Presbyterians.
