Biography

Alexander King Blair was born about 1851 in Berwickshire, Scotland. He was the son of James Blair and Helen King.

In the 1861 census Alexander (age 10) was the son of James Blair in Blakelaws, Stenton, East Lothian.[1] He lived with his parents and siblings James, George, Margaret and William.

At the age of 23, Alexander married Jane Duff Philip (1854 - 1908) on 5 Aug 1875 in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland.[2][3] Their children were:

  1. James Duff Blair (1876–1956)
  2. David Philip Blair (1880–1961)
  3. Jane Blair (1882–1978)
  4. Helen King Blair (1884–1970)
  5. Alexander Blair (1886–1917)
  6. George Blair (1887–1975)

In the 1881 census Alexander (age 29), Joiner or Cabinet Maker, was at 1 North St, Dunbar, East Lothian.[4][5] He lived with his wife Jane (26) and sons James (4) and David (1).

In the 1891 census Alexander (age 39), Joiner, was at 4 Maclaren Terr, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian.[6][7] He lived with his wife Jane and children James, David, Jane, Helen, Alexander, and George.

In the 1901 census Alexander (age 49), House Carpenter, was at 20 Cambusnethan St, Edinburgh South Leith, Midlothian.[8][9] He lived with his wife Jane (46) and children James (24), David (21), Helen (17), Alexander (15), and George (13).

He was predeceased by his wife Jane in 1908.

Alexander died on 22 Feb 1919 in Canongate aged about 69.[10][11] His estate was granted to his son James, 14 Dechmont, Uphall.
