Biography

John Blaisdell was born May 27, 1688 at Amesbury, Massachusetts, son of Henry and Mary (Haddon) Blaisdell. [1] [2]

He married the widow Elizabeth (Challis) Hoyt at Amesbury on January 6, 1692/3. Elizabeth was the daughter of Philip and Mary (Sargent ) Challis, and the widow of John Hoyt Jr.[3]

John Blaisdell was appointed guardian of the minor children, Lydia Hoyt aged about 12 years of age and Daniel Hoyt aged about 8 years, on March 29, 1699. [4] [5]

On November 22, 1720, an agreement of the distribution of the lands John Hoyt's estate was reached between Joseph Blaisdell, and his wife Elizabeth, previous wife of John Hoyt, Daniel Hoyt and Joseph and his wife Lydia Quinby, which was accepted and allowed by the court on September 26, 1722. [6]

John Blaisdell of Amesbury, died in May, 1733. [2]

On June 22, 1733, widow Elizabeth Blaisdell submitted a petition to the court indicating she was incapable of administering the estate of her late husband, John Blaisdell who died intestate and asked that eldest son Ralph be appointed administrator. [7]

In the will of Elizabeth's brother John Challis, written on March 21, 1741, he left a bequest to his sons John and Gideon, land he had purchased from his sister Elizabeth Blaisdell. [8]

Widow Elizabeth Blaisdell was living in 1744. [2]

On November 17, 1755, the court appointed a committee to divide the real estate of John Blaisdell, deceased intestate and distribute it in six equal shares to the children. Those receiving shares were:

  • Ralph Blaisdell, eldest son - 2 shares
  • Philip Blaisdell
  • Jacob Blaisdell
  • daughter Elizabeth Clough
  • daughter Mary Hoyt [7]

[1] [2][3] (note: The Genealogy of the descendants of John Clough of Salisbury, Massachusetts states that the Elizabeth Blaisdell who married David Clough, was the grand-daughter of Ralph Blaisdell, so she is likely not the above Elizabeth that descended from John and Henry)
