Leonard was born about 1859. Two of his sons died from scarlet fever - family lore says that he came home from a sea voyage to find the bodies of his sons, Carlton and Donald, laid out on the front lawn (October 1918.) He passed away after contracting influenza in November 1918.
He was buried in Oceanview Cemetery, Boothbay, Maine. His wife and two young sons share his headstone.
