Biography

Ithiel Blake was born ca 1748 in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine, son of Benjamin Blake, resided Gorham, Maine. He m 13 Jul 1769 at Gorham, Me Apphia Higgins of Gorham, Maine who had come from Cape Cod when quite young. [1]

Marriage Intention was recorded as 29 Jun 1769[2]

Ithiel Blake m. Apphia Higgins, both of Gorham married July 13, 1769 [3]

Ithiel bought land of Nathaniel Bacon in Gorham, Maine, the northeast half of the seventy acre lot No. 114, later owned by his grandson Timothy. His wife Apphia Higgins reportedly "came to from Cape Cod to Gorham with the Bacon family, when she was quite young” [4]


Death

There is no definite death date at this time but in 1802 there were deeds referring to the division of Ithiel's estate, implying a death during or earlier than 1802.

1790 Federal Census, Towns of Gorham and Scarborough, 3 males under 16, 3males over 16, 5 females[7]
28 Sep 1792 Ithiel Blake and Timothy Bacon, both of Gorham, buy 100 acre lot of land #7 to the east of Long Pond in Bridgton and is 100 rods in width, bounded on said pond, 1/2 mile in length. purchased from Stephen Gates of Bridgton [8]
22 Aug 1795 Ithiel Blake, of Gorham, buys lot #4(?) in the 2d range of lots in twp of Bridgton, from Thomas Bangs [9]
10 Oct 1795 Ithiel Blake, of Gorham buys 100 acres of lot #6 in Bridgton lying on the easterly side of Long Pond, originally granted to Moody Bridges [10]

There are deed and census records in Gorham through 1795. As early as 1792 he also bought land in Bridgton.
