Biography

Samuel Turner Blake was born at Ryde on the Isle of Wight, son of brewer, Samuel Blake and his wife, Charlotte Turner.[1] He was educated at Stubbington House school in Titchfield under headmaster the Reverend William Foster. [2] By the time he was 24 he was back at home with his parents, now living in the prestigious Crescent in Alverstoke, and working in the highly lucrative family business. [3]

It was at Whitchurch on the 14th of January 1862 that he married Mary Hemsted [4] daughter of Tobias Rustat Hemsted and his wife, Mary King. They made their home at Upper South St in Gosport. [5][6] By 1891 they were living at Uxbridge House in Anglesey. [7]

Samuel died on the 27th of March 1897 and was buried at St Mark's Church in Alvesrtoke.

"Sacred to the beloved memory of Samuel Turner Blake aged 60 years who died on March 27th 1897 from the effects of an accident. And of Mary his beloved wife who passed to her rest Sept 16th 1928 in her 91st year" [8]

Research Note

He was executor of the estate of Mary Hemsted of Bath in 1891 [9]
