David was born about 1837. He was the son of David Blakely.

In the 1865 census David (age 28) was in District 03, Dunkirk, Chautauqua, New York, United States.^[1] The household included David Blakely Jr. 28, father David Blakely 78, mother Roxana Blakely 72. David was born in Erie County and his parents in Connecticut. Roxana was the mother of 15 children. David and Roxana had been married once and were currently married. Both David and his father were farmers.

In the 1850 census Roxana (age 58) was in Pomfret, Chautauqua, New York, United States.^[2] The household included David Blakely 63, Roxana Blakely 58, Orvil Blakely 17, Covill Blakely 14, Emily Blakely 10.

In the 1855 census Roxanna (age 63) was the wife of David Blakely in E.D. 1, Pomfret, Chautauqua, New York, United States.^[3] The household included David Blakely 68, wife Roxanna Blakely 63, son Covell Blakely 19, daughter Emma Blakely 15. David and Roxanna were born in Connecticut, Covell in Erie County and Emma in Cattaragus County.

In the 1860 census David (age 75) was in Township 21 N Range 9 E, Champaign, Illinois, United States.^[4] The household included David Blakley 75, Rose A Blakley 71, Calell Blakley 24.

In the 1870 census Roxanne (age 78) was in Colden, Erie, New York, United States.^[5] The household included David Blakely 83, Roxanne Blakely 78.

Could Covill or Covell have been David? The ages and birth locations match. Looking closely at the 1865 census, David appears to be a transcription error for Covell.
