Biography

I'm trying to figure out who the "aunt" was for Hazel Mae Blakney (b. 19 April 1896 at Sunny Brae).

The Late Registration of Births for BLAKNEY, HAZEL MAE was signed by the aunt. as Mrs. Margaret Price (NOT PRICE). Hazel's parents were [Father: BLAKNEY, C. ANDREW and Mother: WARD, ELIZABETH]

Mrs. Margaret Prince (who lived at Sunny Brae, Westmorland NB in 1955) was 13 yrs older than Hazel. Because she's an aunt, Mrs Margaret Price would be either Mrs. Margaret (Ward or Blakney, surnames listed for Hazel's parents) Prince.

I looked for deaths of "Margaret Prince" with no luck.

More on Mrs. Margaret (Ward or Blakney) Prince: BLAKNEY, HAZEL MAE was born 19 April 1896. 1896-13=1883 for approx year of birth for Mrs. Margaret (Ward or Blakney) Prince. Margaret Ward or Margaret Blakney would have been born about 1883.

Most people don't marry or have children before age 15. 1883+15=1898. Look for marriage after 1898 between a marriage of Margaret Blakney or Margaret Ward, and somebody with the surname of Prince. I looked for Prince marriages in Westmorland co, NB, because it seemed the most likely place for her marriage. There were only 6 of them, so this helped a lot.

I found one for Margaret M. Blakney and Edmund H. Prince, who married in 1905. No ages were given. Her parents were listed as "Mariner and Mary Blakney" on that marriage record. Now to see if a Marine Blakney had a daughter named Margaret born about 1883.

I then looked for a birth record. We're in luck. Margaret May Blakney (b. 3 April 1883 at Elgin, Albert, NB, daughter of Mariner Blakney and Mary M. Donald)

Now to see if Mariner had a son named C. Andrew Blakney. Haven't found it yet... but I did find this: https://archives.gnb.ca/Search/VISSE/141B7.aspx?culture=en-CA&guid=4AD34F3B-0017-416E-83C3-49EBDBB10728 - New Brunswick Marriages (on 13 April 1892 at Westmorland, NB) for BLAKNEY, ANDREW and WARD, LIZZIE unfortunately, no parents were listed for Andrew. ["BLAKNEY, C. ANDREW and Mother: WARD, ELIZABETH" were the names of the parents of Hazel Mae Blakney]

I started looking under C Blakney and Andrew Blakney to see if I could find one with a father named Mariner. No luck. Looked for a death cert. No luck. Changed the spelling...and after a few attempts, I found him...with two death certificates, with the exact same document under both.

I was finally able to create her own profile after I had found the death cert for BLAKENEY, C. ANDREW (d. 1930-02-24). It confirmed C Andrew Blakeney/Blakney's parents as being Mariner Blakeney and Mary Donald, the same name as the parents of Margaret May (Blakney) Prince (b. 3 Apr 1883 at Elgin, Albert, NB). (Margaret's marriage to Edmund Prince stated that her parents were daughter of "Mariner and Mary Blakney")
