Biography

This profile is part of the Blanchard Name Study.
JOSEPH BLANCHARD is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 1 Right. Listed with him is his wife Marie Josephe Landry and three children: Firmin, Marguerite and Joseph. [1]

Joseph Blanchard was born 5 June 1730. He was the son of René Blanchard and Marguerite Thériot. He was baptized the day he was born at Saint Charles des Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadia.[2]

On 5 September 1755, Joseph was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand-Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village Pierre LeBlanc. No children or livestock were listed for him on Winslow's list. He was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days. [3][4]

Joseph was deported to Maryland in 1755 where he married Marie Josèphe Landry, daughter of Alexandre Landry and Anne flan, about 1758. [4] The couple appear on the census of 7 July 1763 taken in Baltimore, Maryland. "marque + de Joseph Blanchard, Mari Joseph Lendry, Firmin Blanchard, Marguerite Blanch; 4 [persons in the household]"[5][6]

By July 1767 the family had immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana[7] and established themselves in St. Gabriel shortly thereafter (August 1767).[8]

He died after April 17, 1774 but before March 7, 1777 when his wife was listed as a widow on the Census.[9]

Merger is justified. Indications are that he died in St Gabriel, Iberville, Louisiana.

Good information, Bob, thank you. You might want to put it into one of the biographies so it doesn't get lost in the merge (IDK if the comments on both profiles survive the merge process). If you don't have the time right now to make all the children, you could add the Acadian Maintenance category of Needs Profiles Created.
