Poem

A Tribute To Placer

Placer I greet thee!
Once more returned to thee
After Iong years!

Now, on thy hills once bare.
Blooms there a garden fair-
Worthy of thee.

Fruit for the world to eat;
Pears, plums and peaches sweet-
All these I see.

Orange and olive too;
Cherries and grapes whose hue
Glows in the sun.

Gold too thy hills still hold
Here there is wealth untold
Waiting man's hand.

Far on thy mountain's side,
Watching thy onward stride
Great pines still stand.

Highways stretch far and wide
Down by the river's side-
Over the hills.

Ah Placer! great thou art;
Dear to thy daughter's heart
Calling me back from far, awed,
To thy door.
