Biography

James was born in 1910. He passed away in 1980.

Obituary: James H. Bland, 70, who resided at 1401 North Webster Street, died at 11:00 o'clock Monday night in St. John's Hospital North at Springfield. He had been hospitalized for one month. He was born January 3, 1910, at Gibson City, the son of Austin G. and Grace Nelson Bland, and on August 3, 1939, he was married to Martha Bess who preceded him in death in 1974. He had moved from Bloomington to this city 44 years ago and was a machinist for Chicago and Illinois Midland Railway Company until retiring in 1968. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorsville Council 2120 Knights of Columbus, the Machinist's Union and was a Sea Bee veteran of World War II. His only survivor is a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Martha) Clark of Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 o'clock Thursday morning in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Skelton, parish priest, officiating and interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call in Connolly Funeral Home from 7 until 9 o'clock Wednesday night where a Wake Service will be held at 7 o'clock. Obit from local paper Feb. 25, 1980
