Confusion about Ezekiel Blanton:

Hi, there seems to be some confusion about Ezekiel Blanton born in Knox County, KY or there maybe two Ezekiels. They both have the same Mother and Father just one is born in 1774 and the other in 1807. They are both listed as marrying Sarah Copeland. I have to think he was born in 1774. My research has shown he had 3 wives, (1) Sarah Copland whom he married in the late 1700's, (2) I did not write the name down and am angry at my self for not doing it. (3) Nancy Yates B. about 1813-15 in Lee County, VA. Ezekiel had 19 children during his life time.

His father was William Blanton who it appears through testimony of his daughter's recollection in court, to collect his revolutionary war pension in the 1800's, was a soldier serving Gen. George Washington as a body guard. I found the muster roll of George Washington's body guards and his name isn't listed there. Looking at the places and dates of birth William's children I doubt he had time to serve Gen. Washington.

Back to Ezekiel and Nancy Yates; They were married in Jackson County ( Kansas City), MO in 1831 (Missouri marriage registry) Some people believe Ezekiel was a civil war soldier for the CSA and a Minister in civilian life, who knows for sure? I know of Ezekiel and Nancy Yates having one child, John J. Blanton, 1833-1921 (Missouri) listed in findagrave.com (memorial ID 111486388 with photo) and found his death certificate listing Nancy and Ezekiel as his parents. Dates and places of birth listed as unknown. John J.'s son Ira Lee Blanton 1865-1938 is also listed in findagrave.com (memorial ID 27507430 with photo) who is also a grandfather of mine. These grandfather's were definitely a lady's man, very handsome.

Missouri historical texts list Ezekiel Blanton as an early settler of Maries County, MO and Platte County, MO with his wife Nancy Yates being a member of one of the local churches in Platte County in the 1850's. Jackson County (marriage location) and Platte County (both the Kansas City Area) were organized in the 1820's and 1830's and Maries County organized in the 1850's (south central Missouri) both locations are separated by quite a distance for the 1850's so there could have been 2 Ezekiel Blantons and the area's were organized decades apart and separated by hundreds of miles. There are other caveats that are confusing me that don't make sense.

My research continues to clarify all this stuff. Best to you,

William Thomas Blanton, US Army Military Police and Federal Investigator retired. Fairfax, VA.

PS. The most colorful character of the Blantons is Napoleon Bonaparte Blanton, B. 1828 in Missouri, Santa Fee Trail Wagon Train Master, Kansas politician, businessman, friend of Abe Lincoln, his wife witnessed Lincoln's assassination, Kansas Volunteer Infantry Officer, fought with John Brown in Kansas and the first automobile fatality of Wichita, Kansas in 1913.

UPDATE: 3/13/2018

Ezekiel Blanton had two wives at the same time. He married Sarah Copeland in 1828 in Monroe County, Tenn. Sarah was the widow of William Taff and had 1 or 2 children when they married (1850 census). Sarah was 2 years older older than Ezekiel they mostly lived in Miller and Osage Counties, MO. Historical books shows he contributed to the school system. Ezekiel also married Nancy Yates in 1831 in Jackson County, MO and had one son that I know of, John J. Blanton, born in 1833 in Ray County, MO. Historical book of Platte County, MO (on-line) shows Ezekiel did purchase a property for Nancy Yates to live on. Sarah and Ezekiel had 4 kids and John at times did live with them and would return to Northwest, MO where he was born. I have no idea what happened to either Sarah or Nancy.
