Biography

Elizabeth Spencer known as "Salley" was born about 1795, to Amasa Spencer. She married Jeremiah (Jerry T.) Meek in 1809 and had children. She passed away after 1856 in either Arkansas or Texas.

Research Notes

Elizabeth's maiden name is Spencer, documented in several sources. Her father's name was Amasa, given namesake passed to son Jacob Amasa Meek-2756.

Proof of Relationships/ Maiden Name

Jeremiah Meek-718 correct wife is documented to be Elizabeth "Sally" Spencer, sourced (as Sally) and documented by Kentucky Marriage Records, 1809, Casey, Kentucky.

Husband Jeremiah Meek-718 files a divorce petition on 5 Nov 1856 filed in Bell County, Texas stating his wife Elizabeth D. Spencer had "abandoned" him 8 Mar 1852. In his testimony he gave wife's maiden name as Spencer, married 5 Sep 1809 in Casey, Kentucky. She did not show up to the proceedings. Sourced from "The Meek/ Meeks Families of Tennessee.." page 32. See husband Jeremiah Meek-718 for all detailed notes.

Spencer-26066 and Spencer-24508 appear to represent the same person because: These look like duplicate spouses, sharing the same names, dates, location,s and most importantly, spouse. Please merge into Spencer-24508, the lowest-numbered profile. Thanks for your help keeping WikiTree tidy!

All the best, Janet

This is the wrong person, this is not Betsy Blevins-3613 who married Jeremiah Meek-2658, I have explained this thoroughly in research notes, supported by sources, and other noted research (DNA "The Meek/ Meeks") Christopher Meek, done on these families.

Jeremiah Meek-2658 is "Shot Gun" Jerry Meek, noted in "History of Northwest Arkansas, Carroll, County", Goodspeed Publishing, who died in 1847, in Arkansas. Jeremiah Meek-718 resided in Carroll, Arkansas concurrently with Jeremiah 2658, but these are different families.

They shared the similar nickname "Jerry", and lived concurrently in Carroll, Arkansas circa 1838. Jeremiah 718 lived in Carroll, Carrollton, AR. and Jeremiah 2658 lived with son John Meek-2657, (documented age group), but are clearly not the same person.

This is proven to be Elizabeth "Sally" Spencer-24508 born in Kentucky, married in Sep 1809 Casey, Kentucky, Maiden name verified as by husband Jeremiah Meek-718 divorce proceedings 5 Nov 1856 in Bell, Texas (where he resides). She is specified as "Elizabeth maiden name Spencer". See correct wife Elizabeth Spencer-24508.

Please, as no one else appears interested, make the necessary changes to these profiles to clearly differentiate these men and their wives.

Please see the 1850 Census Carrollton, Carol, Arkansas

Jerry is listed with wife Elizabeth.

Jerry T Meek 62 b. Georgia, Elizabeth Meek 55 b. Kentucky, William w Meek 20 Tennessee, Joseph J Meek 19 Tennessee

So yes he had a wife named Elizabeth.

Also page 23 in the “Cherokee Jones Family “ book Jeremiah Meek and Elizabeth Blevins parents of Alafair Meek who married John Jones.

Stephanie,

These are obviously the same person. I see we not only have the birth dates different but also the location, you have Kentucky and I thought she was born in Old Cherokee Nation East, what later became Tennessee. Where did you find documentation for Kentucky?

Blevins-3488 and Blevins-1023 are not ready to be merged because: We need sources to agree on birth date (year).

Blevins-3488 and Blevins-1023 appear to represent the same person because: per marriage record she married Jeremiah in 1802, there appears to be some confusion with her husband and her son.

Blevins-3488 and Blevins-1023 appear to represent the same person because: Disagreement on birth years, but otherwise a good match.
