Credit The Peerage Transcript - Not all verified: Major Frederick Arthur Bligh M, #134186, b. 5 July 1861, d. 15 November 1915 Last Edited=10 Feb 2008 Major Frederick Arthur Bligh was born on 5 July 1861.2 He was the son of Major Frederick Cherburgh Bligh and Emily Matilda East.2 He married Mary Wentworth Forbes, daughter of Lt.-Gen. George Wentworth Forbes and Harriette Anne Roberts, on 22 June 1898.2 He died on 15 November 1915 at age 54, killed in action. He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Artillery. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).2 He held the office of High Sheriff in 1904.2 He lived at Brittas, Nobber, County Meath, Ireland.3 He fought in the First World War. According to DeRuvigny's "Roll of Honour, 1914-1919": "On the last day of practice at Okehampton, before leaving for the front, he was taken seriously ill, and died there 15 Nov 1915, of neglected appendicitis, contracted while on service," aged 54. Michael Pegum: Major Frederick Bligh, formerly with the R.H.A., who rejoined on the outbreak of war after 21 years of retirement. He trained "B" Battery, 154th Brigade, R.F.A. "in connection with the Ulster Division" at Okehampton until they were ready to leave for the front in October, 1915. On the last day of training he fell ill with appendicitis and died soon afterwards. His entry in De Ruvigny said of the unit he trained that "their splendid work ever since is testimony to his work".
