Pliny moved from New England to Cincinnati, Ohio, about 1815, and then in two years he moved to Newport, Kentucky. He built a steam ferry-boat with the eldest son of General William H. Harrison. They named it "General Pike" in honor of General Zebulon Montgomery Pike, the young man's father-in-law. The steamer was one hundred feet long by twenty-five wide, and was the first boat ever built in Cincinnati. Its first run was in 1819. Pliny was a ferryman between Cincinnati and Covington.[1][5]
