Sumpter Blocker is a part of US Black heritage.

Sumpter was left to James Edwin Blocker (1776-1831) on behalf of his son D.I. Blocker from the estate of John Gottlieb Blocker Sr. (1749-1814) in Edgefield County, South Carolina. The will which was dated November 17, 1814 appraised him for $300.00.[1] When the transfer occurred on February 23, 1819 Sumpter was given a value of $850.00.[2]

Research Notes

USBH Naming Conventions for Slaves: LNAB based on the first slave owner. Current last name based on most recent slave owner. In Other Last Names list all other slave owners.
Before I estimated any of the dates for the Abney, Blocker, Brooks, or Blocker slaves I looked at every value and realized that the very young, and older slaves were valued less; female less than male. I also realized that the very young were not named in sales or transfers. I believe the difference in the appraisal and transfer prices were based on his age. Because the appraisal price was on the lower side, but the transfer price wasn't normally what is seen for someone in their prime, I believe he was just under age in 1819. I set the death date for after the last transfer date. Everything can be modified as more records are found.
