Biography

John was born in 1759. He passed away in 1848.

John Blood, son of Caleb and Hannah, was born in Groton, Massachusetts, on 6 September 1759. John Blood, son of Oliver and Sarah, was born in Groton, Massachusetts, on 10 November 1759.[1] These two boys were first cousins; both grew to adulthood and married. There is uncertainty as to which of them was the John Blood who settled in Windsor, Vermont and married Asenath Powers and which was the John Blood who remained in Groton and married Lydia Kemp.

Toler quotes Childs Windsor County Gazette stating that John Blood "came from Groton, Mass." to Windsor, Vermont, about 1785,[2] but the town marriage record suggests that he arrived by 1782.

John Blood was married to Asenath Powers in Windsor, Vermont, on 28 February 1782.[3] Their children included:[4]

  1. Asenath, born 8 July 1782.
  2. Polly, born born 25 March 1784.
  3. Samuel, born 3 March 1787.
  4. Marshall, born 27 April 1791.
  5. Marvin, born 8 January 1793.
  6. Horace, date not available.
  7. Sylvester, born 17 June 1797.

Grace Toler's 1933 book, cited in this profile, notes that Caleb Blood's older brother Oliver Blood and wife Sarah Darling also had a son named John Blood who was born 10 Nov 1759, but Toler tentatively identifies this John Blood as the child of Caleb and Hannah, born 9 Sep 1759, citing "all data gathered by Percy G. Smith, genealogist, of Montpelier, Vermont." She did not describe Percy Smith's evidence.

I created Blood-1421 as a profile for the son of Oliver and Sarah. The births or biographies may need to be swapped if it turns out that the adult lives are connected to the wrong children.

Tangle. I have John Blood (10/11/1759) who married Asenath and Piercy as the son of Oliver Blood and Sarah Darling. I have the other John (6/9/1759) marrying Lydia Kemp
