James Bloodworth ... [1]
When he and his brother Erasmus "Frank" Bloodworth "got their freedom" (at age 21 they were allowed to go out and work for other than their father), they saved their money and bought their sister Ruth a stove.
James owned a large farm, growing many fruits and vegetables. His daughter Dell Bloodworth Mixon recalled her father having different varieties of peaches, so that they had peaches coming ripe at different times during the summer months.
James also owned a store near the railroad in what is now the Ivey, GA area. He did a lot of business with the railroad. Dell Bloodworth Mixon also recalled seeing Indians who would travel there in wagons to trade at her father's store.
Dell Bloodworth Mixon also recalled her father as a man who didn't like "arguing". He didn't like it when the children would argue.
In 1918 the entire family came down with the flu. James got in the wagon and went to nearby Gordon, GA, to get Dr. Ben Dupree. James did not remember getting back home. All of the family members survived the Flu Epidemic of 1918.
In the 1940 census James and Minnie were in Ramah, Wilkinson, Georgia, on their farm.[2]
Buried at Ramah church cemetery, Wilkinson County, GA.
