Biography

Britain Blount was born in Appalachia, in Alabama.

He was the son of William Blount and Lucy Marshall.

Brittain Blount served for Georgia in the War of 1812 - 3rd Reg't (Wimberly's) GA Mil, Corporal [1]

Brittain/Britton is buried at Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery, near Notasulga, Macon, Alabama. [2]

The petition of Robert A. Johnston, General Administrator for said County and by virtue of office Administrator of the Estate of Britton Blount dec'd Showeth unto your Honor that the said Britton Blount late of said County departed this life seized and possessed of the following described land to wit: undivided ½ of the E½ of the S 19 Township 17 Range 22 lying and being in the Tallapoosa Land district in Macon County Ala,

Your petitioners further showeth unto your Honor that the said Britton Blount left surviving him his children and the children of a dec'd child to wit as his heirs at Law: Benjamin F. Blount, Andrew J Blount, Wm A. Blount, James Blount, Susan Caldwell wife of James S. Caldwell, Carrie Foster wife of Wm Foster, Doratha Deloach wife of John Deloach, Martha Jones wife of Henry Jones, all of the above parties are of full age. The Said B. F. Blount resides in Montgomery County Ala, Andrew J. Blount and Susan Caldwell reside in Macon County Ala, James Blount resides in Montgomery Co., Wm Blount resides in Texas, Carry Foster resides in Montgomery County, Doratha Deloach resides in Tallapoosa County, Martha Jones resides in Geo, and Henry Blount, Thomas Blount, and Elizabeth Blount Grand children of the said Britton Blount who are minors under the age of Twenty one years and reside in the State of Georgia.

Petitioner further states that said land cannot be fairly and Equitably divided among said heirs without a sale thereof. Your petitioner therefore prays your Honor for an order authorizing him to sell said land. An your petitioner will ever pray &c.

Britton Blount's probated estate, 1859, with petitions filed by Andrew J. Blount from Richmond, VA, July 17th, 1861 ... 9 children (one deceased) mentioned in margin notes on A. J. Blount's petition ... matching undated petition by B. F. Blount with signature ... both seek final settlement and reference "eighteen months" since first filed. ... both state clearly they are heirs ... [Note: spelling varies in documents, but the two petitions filed above by his sons clearly state "Britton"]

Sarah's estate probated estate, finalized Oct. 8, 1866, lists 7 heirs residing in Macon Co., 1 in Texas, 1 deceased with minors in Georgia. They are:

Andrew J. Blount, [Virginia is his wife in 1876 Chancery Court case] Benjamin F. Blount, [Lizzie Blount signatures and references] J. T. Blount, Mrs. S. C. Caldwell, [co-signed elsewhere with J. S. Caldwell] Mrs. C. Foster, Mrs. M. Jones, Mrs. S. Beacham, Mrs. D. Deloach Wm. Blount - residing in Texas G. Blount heirs, minors, in Georgia

In the distribution of the estate a "Negro girl" named Easter is appraised at $1,500. An additional $894.50 in Confederate money was rec'd from itemized estate sale
