In 1871 he was 3 years old with his family, he was one of five children, His father was a coal miner.

Emmanuel married Harriet Mae Rankin in 1898, in Washington in the USA when he was 30 years old ^[7]

Emanuel and Harriet had at least 8 children, 4 of whom are with the couple in 1910, Emmanuel was running his own barbers shop. Noted on the Census are :^[8]

The ships manifest states that Emanuel and his father Joseph were Irish. Ann and five children arrived on another ship later in 1882
