She was the daughter of Charles Blowsnake and Lucy Goodvillage. Her family typically camped along Levis Creek, near Black River Falls from about 1864. (Lurie 1) It was in this area that Annie was born around 1867.
Her Hocąk clan name was given by her sister Mountain Wolf Woman in English as "White Thunder" (Lurie 2), and in Hocąk, WaConChaSkaWinKah (censuses), which is for Wakąjáskawįga. This name is from Wakąjá, "Thunderbird"; ska, "white, pale"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. "White Thunder Woman" is an attested name in the Thunderbird Clan.
