Biography
Melchior Blum was born on 19 December 1651 in Flieden[1]. He was the son of innkeeper Johann Georg Blum and Gertrud Raniss.
He married Maria Catharina Springer, the daughter of a cooper, on 9 June 1681 in Fulda[2]. They had a son:
- Johann Christoph b. 1682 d. 1689
His first wife passed away in about 1683. He married for a second time to Susanna Schneider on 16 November 1683 in Fulda[3]. Their children:
- Johann Melchior b. 1685
- Johann Peter b. 1688
- Anna Catharina b. 1690 d. 1690
- Johann Christoph b. 1691 d. 1692
- Anna Barbara b. 1694
He succeeded his father as innkeeper of the "Schwarze Adler" (Black Eagle) in Flieden. Before fully taking on those duties, he moved to Fulda for some time, where he was a cooper[4], and he likely returned to Flieden after his father's passing in 1694.
He passed away on 27 April 1711 in Flieden[5]. His son Melchior inherited the inn in Flieden and became next innkeeper, succeeding the elder Melchior.
Research Notes
A Maria Gertrud Blum, daughter of Melchior Blum, passed away in Fulda on 22 September 1689[6], but it isn’t clear who her mother would have been.
