John) Hubbard, of Hatfield, Mass., 22 Oct.,1685; fence viewer, 1692 and '97; drew lots in 1694 allotment; bridge comm'r, 1698; a surveyor, 1700-1; seating the meeting-house, 1707; selectman, 1702; appraiser of cattle, 1703; had in 1677, 13 1/2 ac. in Rocky Hill, coming from his bro. Joseph's est., and he also bo't 19 1/2 act on W. side of the Rocky Hill. This became his home and contin. in family for many yrs., some of it as late as end of last century. He was commis. by Gen. Ct. May, 1698, as Ens. of the Trainband in So. end of Weth. and Lieut., May, 1703; he was also one of the three in charge of the fortified Deming house, known as "Fort Deming." He d. 21 Sept., 1712, in 52d yr. Weth. Rec. Invent. of est. £693-19-05, taken by Jonathan Semith, Joseph Grimes, Will (nuncupative - not signed): He gave l/2 his estate to his wife during her natural life; the other 1/2 to his son Jonathan; "he. paying Legacies to his younger sisters, an amount to each to be made equal to what his sister Mary Wright had received - the two Negros to his wife during her life." She with son John Wright to be executors - Proven 3d Nov., 1712. Witnesses, Stephen Mix, Joseph Grimes.

FAM. 15. Lieut. and Des. JONATHAN, Jr.; (.Jonathan,2 Samuel,1), b. 1697; m. Mabel (dau. Jonas & Sarah) Holmes, 30 June, 1725; she d. 15 Nov., 1741; he D. (2) 10 Mch., 1743, Elizabeth Beckley; he was for many yrs. (from 1716) the school master of Rocky Hill. He d 25 Dec. 1775. S. Ch. Rec. The ld. rec'd from his fathe has two houses on it, which afterward moved together, forming the curious old double Boardman house, under one roof, pulled down in 1893. His father who. d. when he (Jonathan, Jr,) was abt, 15 yrs.old, left him one-half of his personal estate to be improved for is learning and bringing up "and the benefit of certain lds." for the same use; and his education was undoubtedly superior to that of most young men of his day. He was, for many years the schoolmaster of the North end of Weth, township- the first Rocky Hill schoolhouse, eredted in 1712, was nearly opp. to his house.
