Sidney Boatright was born in Union Parish, Louisiana, just before his parents moved north across the state line into Union County Arkansas, where they lived until about 1856. When the war began, Sidney's older brother, John Nolan Boatright, uncle William Cleaton Boatright, and first cousin James Evan Price joined Company C, 17th Regiment Louisiana Infantry and went away for service with the Confederate Army. Sidney's uncle and cousin both died that fall from disease. The next spring, Sidney's father, uncle, and another first cousin, Thomas J. Price, all joined Co. H, 31st Louisiana Infantry, entering the Confederate service on 16 March 1862. Sidney's father and uncle, Linear Boatright, both perished in late 1862 from disease.
Shortly prior to their father's death on November 29, Sidney's older brother, John Nolan Boatright, transferred to Co. H, 31st Louisiana Infantry Regiment, his father's and uncle's unit.
On 8 February 1863 at Monroe, eighteen year-old Sidney Boatright joined Co. H, 31st Louisiana Infantry. At his enlistment, he stood 5'6" tall, had auburn hair, a fair complexion, and hazel eyes. Sidney and John Boatright served at Vicksburg, seeing action at the Battle of Port Gibson and throughout the Siege of Vicksburg.
Sidney Boatright survived the Siege, receiving a parole on 9 July 1863, but he died soon afterwards. The exact date and location of his death is unknown. [1]
