Biography
Jehan Bodel was probably born in Arras (now located in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie ). Arras became a centre for at least, 180 poets, of whom the most famous were Jean Bodel, Adam le Bossu and Baude Fastoul. Jean Bodel wrote several chansons de geste (songs of heroic deeds) and he was the most prolific of the trouveres in French literary history.
He may have been educated at the cathedral schools in Arras. [1]
In 1202, Bodel contracted leprosy and entered a leprosarium. [1]
He lived out his years in seclusion because of the leprosy condition and it is estimated that he died between Candlemas ( Feb 2 ) and Pentecost in the year 1210. [1]
It is not known if he had partners, married or had issue.
