Born 19 NOV 1937. Bastrop County, Texas, United States. [1] [2] Obit Note: Germain Böer, beloved Vanderbilt professor of accounting passed away on April 22, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife Elinor O’Brien Boer, mother Lena Mary Boer, father August Henry Boer, and sister, Sally Ann McPhaul. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Mey (Wolfgang) Vierson, Germany, son Robert Boer (Melanie)Nashville, TN, and 3 grandchildren, Alexander Buchmueller, Ashley Buchmueller and Ian Boer and sisters Rita Fredericks (Phil) TX, Donna Hulbert, TX, Mabel Alexander (Keith), TX and 2 brothers Michael Boer (Carol),TX and August Boer Jr, TX. Germain earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from St. Edward’s University(1960), a M.B.A. in Accounting from Texas Tech University(1961), and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Louisiana State University(1964). He taught at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State and worked for Arthur Anderson & Co. before arriving at Vanderbilt in 1977. He taught at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management for 41 years. Over that time period he earned several accolades in his career, including listings in Who’s Who in American Education, Outstanding Young Men of America, and Outstanding Educators in America and in was presented with the Most Outstanding Teacher Award by the graduating Executive MBA class(1999). Germain also served as the Interim Dean of the Owen School from 1986 to 1987. In addition he served as an advisor to startup companies in the Nashville area and was a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and Strategic Finance. He has provided consulting services for companies such as Chase Manhattan Bank, the National Heart and Lung Institute, General Electric, and Magnatek. In 2003, the Tennessee District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration named him Small Business Research Advocate of the Year. Germain, whose email signature and personal mantra “Never Give Up!”, was always willing to listen, provide suggestions to challenges, and offer words of encouragement for anyone who sought them. He loved running, networking with entrepreneurial minded individuals, and spending time with family and friends but most of all he loved inspiring people. Visitation will be at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs , Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Ann’s Catholic Church 5101 Charlotte Ave. Buried Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, United States.
