In the 1900 and 1930 census, he is listed with his wife as owning and operating a farm in Stanford township, Isanti County, Minnesota. The farm is adjacent to that of his father, Friederich, and borders the Rum River, directly east of the south end of Long Lake. This is currently on Isanti County Road 68. In the 1930 census, three children are living with him and his wife. These are Clarence (age 23), Edwin (age 17, and Alice (age 12). According to Betty Boettcher's family history, they had 6 children. In addition to the three listed above, there were a daughter Erna, one stillborn child, and one not accounted for. Paul's younger brothers, William and Julius lived with him and Bertha for some period of time after their widowed mother remarried.
