Imported in error as son of Willem Jansz Bogaert born 1563. Either Joris's birth date is a typo or he is connected to the wrong generation.
The Bogart Family[1] This source appears to conflate two different Gijsberts, from different generations. The older one, Gijsbert Theuniszen Bogaert (1595 - 1646) is the man who married Aertijen Bastiaens. This couple appear to have never emigrated.
7. Gijsbert Corneliszn Boogaertman b. Schoonrewoerd, Holland, occupation Farmer, m. (1) Aertjien Bastiaens, d. 10-Dec-1646, m. (2) 1663, Mary -----. Gijsbert died 1684. He was in New Amsterdam, America in 1640, and leased part of a plantation from Jacob Van Corlaer on Manhatten Island. He was a widower with children that he took to America from Holland. He moved to Catskill, New York in 1661. He remarried in 1663. Adams source states that his first 3 children remained in Holland, and that Gijsbert was the son of Teunis (13729) not Cornelius (13731) as Talcott states.
Gijsbert Corneliszn Bogaert born Schoonrewoerd, Holland, occupation Farmer, died 1684-1695. Gijsbert was, according to Talcott, in New Netherland in 1640, but this claim is disputed in John Bogart's Genealogy of the Bogart Family. Talcott also claims that Gijsbert's cousin Teunis (the son of his uncle, Gijsbert Theuniszn Bogaert) was Gijsbert's own son. [TALC1973, pp. 24] Bogart's Genealogy clearly shows the relationship among the four pioneer members of the Bogaert family descended from Gijsbert In den Boogaertmen based on additional records discovered in Holland. [BOGA1959, pp. 16-26] Gijsbert settled in Catskill, NY. He gave his homestead and farm at Catshill to his stepson, the son of his wife Jochems (Mary). His stepson, Helmer Jants, petitioned for the land 9 Feb 1698-9 and obtained it in 1703. This petition "Showeth that his step-father, Guysbert Bogaert, and Jochems, his mother, owned lands on the north side of Catskill creek for about twenty years last past - lands which they afterward, on June 20, 1684 purchased of the Indians, as doth appear from deed in full recorded in Albany." [TALC1973, pp. 25]
Mary: A petition for a patent in 1698/9 by Helmer Jants states his "step-father" Gijsbert (13893) and Jochems, his mother. Helmer died without heirs, according to Talcott. Thus, Mary was likely married to a Jants before Kalder. Children by Aertjien Bastiaens:
The Cornelius Bogart Family[2]
The article "Bogart" in Genealogical Notes of New York and New England Families states Cornelius Bogaert b. 1615 the son of Cornelius Teunis Bogaert b. abt 1591 and Beeltje b. 1595 was born in Schoonderwoerd, and married to Dirckje Coeymans, b. 1632.
The Children of Cornelius Theunisz Bogaert b. 1591 and Belitgen or Beeltje Corneliusz de Vos b. 1595 were the following:
Cornelius Corneliusz De Vos and Dirckje Pieterse Coeymans reportedly had the following children:
The following paragraph seems to again conflate the two Gijsberts from different generations. Cornelius Theunisz Bogart had a brother Gijsbert Theunisz Bogaert who was born in 1595 in Heicop and died December 10, 1684 in Heicop. He married first Aertje Kirkse (Coeymans) Bastions January 1, 1624 in Hei en Beicop, Schoonderwoerd. Aertje Kirkse (Coeymans) was born January 1, 1597 in Heicop and died December 1, 1646 in Heicop. Gijsbert Bogart married second an unknown.
Louw Theunisz Bogaert another brother of Cornelius Theunisz Bogaert was born in 1598 in Schoonderwoerd and died in 1677 in Vianen. He married Neeltje Lowendr Boogaertman in 1624. Neeltje Lowendr was born in Schoonderwoerd.
Cornelius Corneliusz Bogart Van Der Schoonderwoerd came to Renselaerswyk before 1640. His brother Gijsbert was in New Amsterdam in 1640 and in the Catskill, NY, before 1661 with four sons.
Whether Cornelius De Vos and Cornelius Bogart are the same person is really undetermined.
