Biography

Loranza D. Boggs was born to Ursula Ison Boggs, 3 Aug 1867, when she was between her first and second marriage. She was living with her sister, Mary Ann Ison Ingram, in Millstone, Letcher County, KY, at the time of his birth. Ursula was living in CaneBrake, on Black Mountain, Wise County, VA, when her first husband, John R. Boggs, was killed at Gettysburg. She was expecting their youngest son, Jesse, at the time of his death. After the birth of Jesse, in March 1864, Ursula left Virginia and moved across the mountain to Letcher County, KY. Because of the Civil War, life there without her husband, was very difficult. She left her home to be closer to family, where she would have help raising her children.

Loranza married Mary Ann "Polly Ann" Roark in June of 1867. They had 13 children together, 9 grew to adulthood, married and raised families of their own.

Loranza and Polly Ann lived for most of their married life on Ingrams Creek, in Boggs Holler, Flint, Letcher County, KY. After Polly Ann had a stroke in 1948, they left Kentucky and moved to Charlestown, Clark County, Indiana, where they lived with my grandparents, Henry and Pearlie Boggs Frazier. Pearlie was their 5th born child.

Polly Ann died about four years later, in May of 1952 at the home of her daughter, Pearlie. Loranza would live 10 more years without his beloved Polly Ann. They chose to be buried in the family cemetery on the hill behind their home in Flint, on Ingrams Creek, in Kentucky. It was originally called Jones Boggs Cemetery but is now known as Morgan Jones Cemetery, as their daughter, Mattie and her husband Floyd Morgan, made their home there on the same land.

Thanks to yDNA testing of the only known male to male descendant of Loranza, we know that he is a descendant of James Boggs 1752 - 1835, through a descendant of his son, Elijah.

Even though Loranza's father is named as Thomas B Boggs on his death certificate, he is not. Loranza was born when his mother was between marriages. His entire life, he was told his father was Thomas Stallard. Thanks to yDNA testing done on his only living male to male descendant, we know that Loranza was a descendant of James Boggs 1752 - 1835, through a descendant of his son, Elijah. When he was a young boy. Loranza was treated badly by his stepfather, Thomas Salley/Salling. Tom married Loranza's mother when Loranza was only 2 years old and called him The Little Bastard. Loranza was embarrassed by that. So, he made up a father on his SS file and called him Thomas Boggs. That lie was carried on to his death certificate. I have removed the so-called marriage between Ursula and Thomas Boggs, because it never happened and I have removed the name Thomas Boggs as the father of Loranza. Loranza's daughter, Pearlie Boggs Frazier, was my maternal grandmother. She married Henry Frazier and their daughter, Dana Frazier Combs was my mother.
