Abel Boggs was born on September 26, 1812 near Stonega, Virginia. He died in 1872 after contracting malaria in Emmalina, Knott County Kentucky.
Abel married Rebecca Maggard and had several children: Silas, Suzana, Lucinda, Jessie and Henery. He made his living as a farmer and hunter. He also owned a farm with a small water mill.
Abel came to Knott County in the 1850's and bought a farm near Hindman, Kentucky. He sold it shortly after and built a mill instead. He was a medium sized man, said to be energetic with a zest for living. When he succumbed to malaria, his farm was bought by Silas who divided it up into 6 parts for the following people: William, Suzana, Lucinda, Ira, John S. and Elizabeth.
