Biography

From the biography of his son Jesse: "John Bogue, was born in N. C. in 1875 {incorrect date, not possible}; at the age of 16 he settled in Ohio, where he afterward married Mary Ann Easley, daughter of Daniel Easley, of Virginia, by whom he had 11 children; 10 are living at the present time. The family arrived on Ipava Prairie in the spring of 1831 and pre-empted 1/4 sec. of land. Here he built a cabin, obtaining help from Lewistown; three years afterward he moved into Vermont tp., where he built the first saw-mill. He died in 1876. Mrs. B. died in 1871."[1]

He married Mary Ann Easley 1794-1870

A Job Bogue was residing 1820 in Somers Township, Preble County, Ohio with one male under age 10, one male aged 26-45, one female under age 10, one female aged 10-16. Josiah and Stephen Bogue are on the same census page.[2]

Job Bogue is found in the tax list for Archer Township, Harrison County, Ohio in 1823. James Bogue is also listed.[3]

Job Bogue is found in the Preble County Tax Lists in 1829, but not later. This fits with his reported move to Illinois in 1831.[4]

Father of Stephen Bogue b 1834 in Fulton County, IL.[5]

Research Notes

Virgil T Bogue, Cordelia Bogue Wright and Saunders/Krigbaum all list May 7, 1785 as his birthdate. Also Marriage on Aug 18, 1815 at Elk MM to Sarah Smith (not Mary Easley), 6 children: William, Peggy, Joseph, Jesse, Amos and Josiah A. listed in Bogue. FamilySearch also has Sarah Smith and the same children. The different birth date and Mary Ann Easley as wife are listed in the Find a Grave for his sister Sarah (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/56859464/sarah-bogue). Could there be two marriages, or could there be two different Jobs? Bogue-687 01:24, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
