Biography

Baldwin Bold was the second son of Sir Richard Bould of Bould, Lancashire, and his wife.[1] His father was living in 13 Richard II,[1] which was from 22 June, 1389, to 21 June, 1390.

He was the brother of:

  1. Richard Bould of Bould, elder brother, living in 8 Henry V [21 March 1420-20 March 1421];[1] and
  2. John Bould, younger brother.[1]

Baldwin married Margret Warwicke.[1] She was the daughter and heir of John Warwicke, of Chester and Upton, and his wife, Maud, daughter and coheir of Sir John Arderne.[1]

Baldwin and Margaret had children:

  1. George Bold of Upton, who married Elizabeth Brych of Lancashire.[1]

When Baldwin's descendent, Peter Bold of Upton, Cheshire, had his right to a coat of arms authenticated and his pedigree recorded during the 1580 heraldic visitation of Cheshire by Robert Glover, Somerset Herald, his evidence included:

  • a charter of John Warwik, citizen of Chester, dated at Chester on Monday next before the feast of the birthday of our Lord, 13 Henry IV,[1] which was 14 December, 1411; and
  • a charter of John de Arderne, knight, dated at Alford on Tuesday before the feast of Apostles Simon and Jude in 28 Edward I,[1] which was 25 October, 1300.
