DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Willie or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Willie:

Thanks for cleaning up my duplicate entry. I see we are connected far back through the Simmons family, and perhaps by marriage to the Sherrill family. I am working through my mother's genealogy, which I had studied very little before (focused on my father's side). My mother's family has a long history in Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincon, and Alexander counties, North Carolina, so we may find even more connections.

I wanted to officially say hello! I saw where you "Thanked" me for updating my great grandmother's profile and I wanted to say that my 3rd great grandmother, Harriet Elizabeth (m. Joel Miller) are the two people that started my geneological research several years ago. I have their original portraits in my belongings and have since posted them to various profiles online.

I digress, so when I saw your profile and that you are part of the name study I felt great pride that you thanked me for my little contributions and also to say if you'd like to see some of the hand written and typed information I have on the family I'd be happy to send it to you; albeit not much is "new" information but still interesting to read... Take Care, Becky Elizabeth (Simmons-11603)

Hey, Becky,

Thanks for the "hello," and "hello" back! Joel Miller was the son of my 3rd great grandparents, Frederich Miller and Frances C. Bolch. Joel's brother, Adam Caleb Miller, and wife, Susannah Benfield, were my 2nd great grandparents. Frances Bolch and I both descend from Johan Adam Bolch, the first of our line to reach America from Germany in the mid-18th century. Here is where (with Harriet's marriage to Joel) you see Frances' line of Bolchs "die out" (i.e., becoming Millers) and mine continue on to me. My line will die out with me since one of my brothers had no children, one had two girls, and I had a boy and a girl, but my son died unmarried at age 20. Again, your contributions are not "little." They are meaningful to me in terms of my genealogy. Until I looked up your profile of Harriet, I had never seen her portrait. I guess Bolchs (now Bolicks, of course) were never the best looking bunch. All the best, Willie (Bolick-180)

Frederick and Frances Bolch / Bolich ...are my direct Ancestors as well as I'm realizing you'd already know because of Joel- haha- long day already. Have you placed your DNA in the GEDmatch system? I wonder if it places us as related- My information (w/regard to dna and family tree) are as public as allowed on here so if I can't access it I'd love to know the results should you be able to figure it out! I hope you all had a great extended holiday weekend and hope to hear from you soon. Cheers! Becky Elizabeth

Actually according to wikitree (not actual DNA yet) we are related through at least 9 pathways and not all are via the Miller/Bolch lines- I do think they are all via my biological mother bur I thought it interesting we are 4th,5th, and 6th cousins once removed, 6th cousins twice removed, as well as 8th cousins and again 9th cousins (and 9th- 1xremoved) sorry but I just had to type it :)

You made me laugh! Our progenitors obviously had a lot of progeny. I do have a DNA kit on GEDmatch (it should be listed on my WikiTree profile). Now, how I am supposed to use it is a whole 'nother story! Like you, my DNA results and family tree are referenced all over the place.

Hi Willie,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention those profiles need.

I noticed that several of the profiles need GEDCOM cleanup (YouTube video). I recommend adding links to the profiles of family members, rather than removing as recommended in the video.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

Hi, Debi,

Thanks, again, for your kind note. Now that I am finally ready to begin on those Orphaned Profiles, I need to ask the most basic (and maybe most stupid) of questions: how do I find a list of the orphaned profiles that I adopted? Confusedly, Willie

posted by Willie Bolick
Hi Willie,

The fastest way to find them is to click the Change tab on your profile. That will show the most recent 50 actions by you. You can either scroll down to find them or use the search function (Ctrl+F) to look for the word adopted.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

Because Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects coordinating them is essential. Please ensure location data matches dates of profile, avoid abbreviations, add citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources

The German Roots Project would be of interest. Adding the tag German_Roots will connect you

Explore Pre-1700 Projects list to find one that fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic ead the goals & tasks of the project

Questions please ask
