Younger son of his father Thomas' first marriage to Elizabeth Perkins. He was baptized 19 Feb 1608 at Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England. He immigrated to New England circa 1640, settling in Winter Harbor, Maine. He later removed himself to Welles, Maine.
He married Mary Howell with whom he had three sons and five daughters:

Elizabeth, wife of Philip Locke & William Pitman
Sarah, wife of Humphrey Chadbourne
Joseph died just before 29 Nov 1678 (date of inventory).

Returned twice to England. He was legatee in 1665 in the will of his brother John Bolles of St. James, Clekenwell in 1665. Will dated 18 Sep 1678 at Wells. Widow mary living 25 Feb 1690/1 at Portsmouth.
