Biography

No evidence has been found to confirm the existence of this person.

Research Notes

This person has previously been connected to ancestry from Pocahontas. See Bolling Pocahontas Fabrication for a fuller understanding of how the fabrication came to be, who was involved, and the specific ancestry claimed for this person.

Blue Bollings

He is listed as one of the "Blue Bollings" meaning they showed up out of the blue. DNA evidence has proven that he is not a descendant of Pocahontas. Some even suggest that he may be a made up person along with his wife in order to connect to the Pocahontas line. While there was a real Col. William Bolling who married a Randolph descendant, this isn't him. He has now been rejected from not only the Pocahontas Foundation, but the DAR and SAR. No military records for this William have been found. No records at all have been found except what we now feel are made up and published in the Zelma Wells Price Book. Some sources are good and reliable in the book, but the Sources relating to the Pocahontas descendants all have been disputed and now with DNA evidence can be pretty much proven wrong without much doubt.

Daughters of the American Revolution

DAR has disallowed any future applications under this person unless they can prove correct service.

“The proof of service used to establish this person as a patriot is no longer valid. Subsequent evaluation of the proof of service may have determined that the proof is not acceptable under today’s standards (examples: tombstone, obituary, undocumented genealogy or county history, family tradition); the service belongs to another person of the same name; the residence of this person during the Revolution is inconsistent with the service, or multiple people have claimed the same service. Future applicants must provide proof of service (and possibly residence) that meets current standards.”[1]

DAR Patriot A011838 no longer accepted

Claimed Biography

Col. William Bolling-658 (Bolling-658), was shown as born 1731 and previously connected as the son of John Bolling and Elizabeth Blair based on Zelma Wells Price's work. [2]

Hof writes, "No trace of a Colonel William Bolling has ever been found. A soldier (evidently a private) by that name living in Henry Co. died in the Revolutionary War, but nothing substantial linking him to John and Elizabeth Blair Bolling has ever been uncovered.... Indeed, other than the family hearsay traditions consolidated and written down by Price, [3] DNA of supposed descendants shows he is not a descendant of Pocahontas.

There was a real Col. William Bolling who married a Randolph descendant. See genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/bolling/1572.

He is said to have married Amelia Randlph-1528; she was a daughter of Jane Bolling Randolph, b. 1698, and granddaughter of John Bolling & Mary Kennon Bolling. John Bollng was son of Jane Rolfe, gs of Thomas Rolfe, and ggs of John Rolfe and Amonute Matoaka Powhatan (Pocahontas). Disproven Existence. Parents of Catherine & Samuel, who are possibly real people. Recommendations: Needs to be PPP by Native American Project. Needs to be disconnected from wife Amelia Randolph. Children attributed to William and Amelia include:

  • Catherine Bolling-454, Real person
  • Samuel Bolling-657. Real person
  • Amelia Bolling-739 Amelia Meotaka "Meta" Bolling, born 1761. Father was William L Bolling, Bolling 658.
  • William Bolling-738, b. 1767. was son of William L. Bolling-658
  • Archibald Bolling-740, bon 1757. was son of William L. Bolling-658.
  • [[Bolin-1306|John Bolin (Bolin-1306). Unsourced. Previously connected to William L. Bolling, now disconnected. Has daughter.

PPS - the profiles attached as children (Catherine Bolling & Samuel Bolling) should either also be Disproven Existence profiles or detached from this profile (and for Samuel, from the profile for Amelia also).

Hi! I'm going through the database suggestions for DBE 931: Project Box without Project Account and I just added the project account to this profile to resolve the database error (DBE).

Cheers, Liz

P.S. There are several project profiles that were listed with DBE 931. If they should not be project-managed profiles, please change the project box to the Uncertain Existence research note box (and let me know if you need help removing the project as a manager).

I removed Samuel Bolling as a child https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bolling-657. and added him to his correct parents. Now I'm working on his children I have them listed on his page. Thanks for any help.

Boling-138 and Bolling-658 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. some sources say April and some say May as month of birth. Suggest May and marked as uncertain

Please change the place where he was born - from Balling to Bolling. In Goochland Co. there are Historic Highway Markers for Bolling Hall and also Bolling Island. Patt
