James Primrose Bolton was born in Elgin, Moray, Scotland on 22 January 1860. [1][2] He lived with his grandmother, Margaret Bolton, in Banff, Banffshire in 1871. [3] By 1881, James was a bookbinder living in the parish of St Cuthberts, Edinburgh. [4]
By 1892, James was working as a bookbinder in Brooklyn, New York where he was a citizen. He and his wife Elizabeth had four children, all born in the U.S. They were George A. Bolton age 7, Elizabeth J. Bolton age 5 and Margaret Bolton age 3. [5] When enumerated in 1905, George was a silversmith, the daughter Elizabeth was not with them and there was another child, James A Bolton, who was 9 years old. [6] The family was about the same in 1910. [7] In 1915, James was a book binder, Margaret's occupation was typewriter, and son James was a time clerk. George was not with them. [8] James died in Manhattan 12 January 1929 and was buried in Cypress Hills cemetery, Brooklyn. [9]
