Biography

He was born between 1760 and 1770 according to census records, and married Sally Murry on Feb. 18, 1798 in Fluvanna Co., VA. She as the daughter of Col. Murry, a Rev. Soldier, and the sister of Nancy Murry, wife of John Perkins; Polly A. Murry, wife of Jack Cox; and Patsy & Fanny Murry according to descendants. He married, second, Martha Wilson On Feb. 24, 1826, in Shelby Co., TN . He was named in his grandfather's will in 1774 and left of his land that had previously been deeded to Allen's father but never properly recorded. His brother, Robert Nicholas Bond, was left the other half. Since there is no evidence that Charles' will was ever produced in a Virginia Court, it is assumed that the Courts finally gave presidence to the "partially proven deed" to William and at some time granted Allen, as "heir at law" of William, the title to at least part of the land. In 1795 Allen sold 150 acres of it to his step-father, John Burgess . No record has been found of the other 50 acres. He evidently moved from this home land, for in the 1800 census he was found in St. Anne's Parish, Albermarle Co., VA, with 1 male 26-45, 1 female 26-45, 1 female 10-16, 5 males under 10, 2 females under 10, and 1 slave. The 1800 tax listed Allen Bond and Laine Jones, 2 white males over 21, 7 horses, 1 tithable slave 12-16, and 13 tithable slaves over 16. He moved his family to Madison Co., AL by 1816 when he was found in records as a witness to the will of Claiborne Saunders, evidently his uncle . In 1822 he sold slaves to his 1st cousin-in-law, Willis Elliott . The Orphan's Court Records there indicate that he gave the guardianship of his children to William Ross in 1822, Allen and Loving Ross signing as securities . Evidently his wife had died and he was leaving the children in care of a relative while he moved on to establish a home for them in Shelby Co., TN, for he and his family were found there by 1826 at a settlement called "Bio Creek" near Memphis -according to descendants' notes. The 1830 census there gave 1 male 60-70, 1 female 30-40, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 15-20, 2 males 10-15, 1 male under 5, and 2 females 10-15. He died by May 1837 when William Bond & William Ross were administrators of his estate (was William Ross a son-in-law?). Proven issues: (census records & orphans court records) 1. Allen Bond moved to Alabama in 1813. In 1814, Mourning and her children and Allen Woodward Bond and his family moved to Alabama and settled near their Uncle Claiborne Saunders. There were also some Carters in the area that might have been related to John. Allen moved his family to Shelby, TN in 1824 (where he eventually died) about 18 miles from Memphis before Charles Carter married on 15Dec1827. He had by his first wife 7 girls and 6 boys, Robert, William, Talisea, Vestor, and John. Meredith, his youngest son, was born in Albemarle County in about 1812.
