Biography

Mary was born about 1852 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.

in 1861 she was a scholar, living with her parents and 3 sisters at Elba Street, St Quivox, Ayrshire^[1]

At the time of the 1871 census (2 April) she was working as a servant in the house of James and Mary Anne Craig at 115 Montrose Street, St David Glasgow^[2]

She married James Clyde soon after the 1871 census. James had been living with his parents about 1.5mi from where Mary was working/living. ^[3]and in the 1881 census is recorded as living with him and 5 of their children at 127 South Wellington Street, Govan, Glasgow^[4]

In the 1891 census they had moved to Cumberland Street, Govan, Glasgow with their children^[5]

At the time of the 1901 census, she is recorded as a widow, living with her 6 children (Annie having perhaps died before 1891 census) at 150 Allison Street, Govan, Glasgow^[6]
