Dewalt Bonebrake was born in 1755 in York, Pennsylvania. Desalt married Christina A Wolf in 1782, and in 1800, they moved to Ohio with their 11th of 13 children (11 sons, 2 daughters) born on the way. Devalt (Dewalt) Bonebrake was raised in the German Reformed Church. In 1777, he joined in the defense of Philadelphia in the American Revolutionary War & served another 3-4 years.
Raised in the German Reformed Church, he joined the United Brethren in Christ. It is said that "he was an educated man & taught his children in the German tongue.
Dewalt was a farmer, teacher and a skilled worker in metals including blacksmithing." Dewalt and 2 sons cleared a qtr-acre with a spring & erected a cabin. Is is said that "he was a sturdy, pious, intelligent & honorable man, a true father of religiously-minded, patriotic sons & daughters . . .he loved to sing, was a great woodsman, honest & frugal." Six of Devalt & Christina's sons were ordained in the United Brethren Church of Christ. [1]
