Per Olof was born in Nås Parish, Kopparberg county (Dalarna province) on January 16, 1875, and was christened on January 19 the same year. His mother is listed as "pigan" (farm-maid) Lås Sara Olsdotter, 20 years old, in/from Flatfäbodar. Witnesses: Lås Olof Olsson, wife Lisa Persdotter in Sigfridstorp. Lås Lars Olsson in/at Flatfäbodar and (Anna?) Mathilda Nordström in/at Kölaråsen.[1]
As an adult, he used the name Per Olof Jansson and when he became a soldier he was given the name Bång. The last entry in the household book before he left Nås parish with destination "Amerika" in June 1905 list him as Per Olof Jansson Bång. In that entry he is listed as ex soldier and there is a (hard to read) note about war court and a sentence to hard labour for escaping from military service. [2]
Peter was born in 1875. He passed away in 1954.
Grandson to Peter ( Carl Neuvirth) explained that when Peter immigrated to America he changed his last name to Bong because he was fearful of getting caught here illegally and from deserting the military in Sweden. However as explained above by another WikiTree user he was given the name when he became a soldier.
However with that said he did find himself into a run in with the law in Idaho when he was caught 8 Feb 1923 for manufacture of liquor, and was sentenced to 1 year in prison. My father Carl Neuvirth explained to me that he was bootlegging to support his wife and 9 children. By 3 October 1923 he was released after serving his time.
on the 1920 census the family lived in Idaho, by the 1930 census the family had moved to Washington state.
