Robert studied law in 1831/1832 at the Leipzig University.
He was enrolled/appointed as lawyer in Lengenfeld in 1846 (source: Zeitschrift für Rechtspflege und Verwaltung, 1847)
According to the book "Die Triller-Nachkommen mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Linie Bonitz" he had 7 children with his wife Albine Schneider, all born between 1839 and 1851.
Around 1851 (or already earlier?) Robert und his wife Albine emmigrated to America, possibly together with his sister Bertha Sidonie Bonitz and her husband Alexander Pietzsch. So far, there are almost no sources of their life in the USA. However, there is evidence that their 3 oldest children lived and died in the USA. Whether the other (younger) children stayed in (or returned to) Germany is unclear.
In June 1852 there was a search warrant published for Robert Bonitz in a German newspaper. He was wanted for evasion of an investigation regarding concealment/fraud and for flight. (source: Allgemeiner Polizei-Anzeiger,1852)
In December 1856 a legal guardian was appointed in Lengenfeld to take care of the issues of the absent Robert Bonitz and his sister Bertha Pietzsch (nee Bonitz). (source: Leipziger Zeitung, 1857)
