Anthony was born in 1740 in Prince Frederick Parish, Province of South Carolina, the son of John Bonnell and his wife Honora White. He was baptized at Prince Frederick Winyaw Church on 19 April 1741.[1]

Anthony Sr was married twice. He had seven children by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (surname unknown): John, Daniel, Elizabeth, Honora, Anthony W., Rebecca, and William Bonnell. [2]
Elizabeth died after the birth of their seventh child, William, in about 1780. Anthony was a widower when he and their seven children were recorded on the 1782 "Petition for Aid". Anthony married Mary Ann Mills soon thereafter and they had two known children -- Martha and Ann Bonnell. [3]
Anthony Bonnell, Sr., although commissioned in 1775 as a 2nd. Lt. (and later promoted to Captain) in the Burke County militia under Captain Joseph Atkinson, never served as a Revolutionary soldier. [4]
Due to the wartime collaboration of his sons, Daniel and John, with the British, Anthony Sr. was viewed as a traitor and non-citizen throughout the War. He was one of a number of distressed persons who petitioned the executive council in 1782 for re-instatement of citizenship.
Anthony and his two sons were charged with crimes committed during the Revolution as British collaborators. His son, Daniel, was hanged on 18 October 1784. His son, John, fled to St Augustine, Florida, and to Nova Scotia where he married Abigail Putnam in about 1792.[5]
Between 1765 and 1770 a group of settlers from North and South Carolina settled and received land grants in the vicinity of what is now Rocky Ford, Georgia. Among the first settlers was Anthony Bonnell, Sr., who served as one of the commissioners appointed at the time Screven County was created. The first County Seat of Screven was established at Rocky Ford. [6]
The establishment of Jacksonboro as the county seat of Screven County was authorized by an Act of the General Assembly, Feb. 1, 1797. James H. Rutherford, Francis Jones, Martin Martin, Anthony Bonnell, Sr., and Stephen Pearce were appointed Commissioners to "purchase or otherwise procure not less than five acres nor more than fifty acres for the building of a court house and jail."
He died at his plantation on April 25, 1809 at age 68 and his obituary was carried in the Savannah Republican Evening Ledger on Apr. 27, 1809. [7]
A notice of the death of Anthony Bonnell also appeared in "The Republican and Savannah Evening Ledger" in its issue of April 27, 1809, showing he died on the 25th of same month at his plantation in Screven County, in his 68th year.
The will of Anthony Bonnell, Senior, [8] was signed 19 November 1804 and proved (probated) in Screven County Court on 3 July 1809.
Bequests were made to: — his children: William, Anthony Jr., Honor, Bryant, and Rebecca Lovett — his grandchildren: John, Elizabeth and Elias Bonnell
Executors were Archibald Mills and son, William Bonnell.

life of Mary Mills' marriages.. There have been many named Mary Mills,
Anthony referred to Archibal Mills as a son in law. But if Mary Mills his sister was married to Anthony Archibald would have been a brother in law.
Right now I am recovering from major surgery and still in PT so have to puit of these hard questions until released from PT
